This page explains the best practices for multiscale computing collected during the MAPPER project. This page will be updated regularly even after the end of the project.

Q: Is there a bird's eye view of the MAPPER best practices?
A: Yes. Deliverable 6.2 explains the MAPPER best practices as far as service activities and the EGI/PRACE cooperation are concerned. The deliverable is available here.

Q: Would it be possible to get a feeling what Multiscale Modeling and Simulation is all about and which tools may be used?
A: Yes. There are several presentations available. The easiest way is to look into the presentations given during the General Session of the MAPPER Summer School. These presentations can be found here.

The following videos are recordings of Alfons Hoekstra's presentations at the MAPPER Summer School on multiscale modelling and simulation (first video) and distributed multiscale computing (second video).

Q: How can I develop loosely coupled multiscale applications?
A: This tutorial explains in detail how to develop loosely coupled multiscale applications using the Multiscale Application Designer (MAD), the MAPPER Memory (MaMe) and the GridSpace Experiment Workspace.

The following video is a recording of Katarzyna Rycerz's presentation at the MAPPER Summer School on MAPPER Memory, Multiscale Application Designer and GridSpace.

Q: I am more interested in tightly coupled multiscale applications. What do I have to consider when developing such applications?
A: In this tutorial we explain in detail how to develop tightly coupled multiscale applications using the Multiscale Coupling Library and Environment (MUSCLE) and the MPWide Communication Library.

The following videos are recordings of Joris Borgdorff's and Derek Groen's presentations at the MAPPER Summer School on MUSCLE (first video) and MPWide (second video).

Q: Now I have created a coupled multiscale simulation. What do I have to do to run it on a production e-infrastructure?
A: There is a tutorial available which explains exactly this case using a scenario from the ScalaLife project. An accompanying tutorial explains the deployment processes in more detail.

The following video is a recording of Ilya Saverchenko's presentation at the MAPPER Summer School on deploying multiscale applications.
